 Neurodiversity-Affirming Counselling for Adult ADHD,
Autistic and Other Neurotypes

At Relate Psychology, every individual's neurodivergent experience is understood to be unique and  psychology services provided are dedicated to supporting ADHD, autistic and AuDHD adults by offering a respectful, validating, and empowering environment.

Neuro-affirming psychology is an approach that acknowledges and respects the diverse neurological experiences of individuals. It moves away from pathologising neurodivergence, instead embracing it as a natural variation of human diversity. This approach focuses on both the strengths and challenges associated with ADHD and autism, fostering a supportive atmosphere that honors each person's unique perspective.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy sessions, a safe space is provided for you to explore your experiences, challenges, and strengths. The goal is to work collaboratively with you to develop personalised strategies that enhance your well-being and daily functioning. Common areas that might be addressed include:

  • Helping you create effective routines and strategies to manage your time and responsibilities.

  • Providing techniques to improve concentration and manage distractions.

  • Developing skills to manage emotions and reduce overwhelm.

  • Exploring and embracing your neurodivergent identity, building self-esteem, and cultivating self-acceptance.

  • Managing sensitivities to noise, light, textures, or other sensory inputs, and finding ways to create a comfortable environment.

  • Utilising strengths such as creativity, hyperfocus, enthusiasm, and unique perspectives to enhance your personal and professional life.

  • Understanding the impact of masking (suppressing neurodivergent traits to fit in) and developing strategies to prevent and recover from burnout.

  • Offering support during significant life changes, such as career shifts or personal milestones.

  • Improving social skills and understanding social cues to foster better interpersonal relationships.

  • Providing practical support for managing daily tasks and responsibilities more effectively.

  • Addressing the cumulative impact of sensory demands and finding ways to reduce stress and enhance wellbeing.
